Dear Woo family members:

On June 14, 2001, my father Francis Woo, Diane (Woo) Soo Hoo, cousin Frances Chu and I went to find Rev. Yee Bew Woo's Grave site. A description by Diane of the day and photos is on this web site (story/pictures not sent in yet - webmaster). Dad had not been there in probably 50 years, yet he knew where it was and he was right. The cemetery Pokfulum Christian is one of the most beautiful sites of Hong Kong, high over looking the Bay and well maintained.

The tombstone is still intact though quite weathered and the picture cracked and partially missing. The rest of it is in a pretty good shape considering no one has taken care of it since 1930.

To have the tomb restored it would cost US $1000. To remove his remains to Hawaii about US $2000 (including shipping and reinstatement).

There are pros and cons:

a) No one visits Hong Kong,
b) He is buried near other Woo family members of Hong Kong,
c) No one visits grandmother in Honolulu,
d) After we fix the tombstone, who will take care of it in 50 years?

Those there felt it was best to leave grandfather there.

If every surviving  family chips in $100 (for a restoration) we can cover the costs. I assume everyone has no problem sending checks to Diane Soo Hoo .......and we will restore and replace the tombstone photo.  Please email Diane to get her mailing address if you do not have it. dsoohoo1@compuserve.com

Of note we planned to find Great Grandfather's site in Namhung - 6 hours north of Guangzhou. Unfortunately we found out his grave has been built over in 1958 and no further records exist. Probably from the period of the cultural revolution.
